The material system has been completely overhauled. Users can now write custom shaders in the new language "Gasoline" (it goes in the engine). All specialised features like car paint, heightmap blending, etc., have been ported to this new language. Augusto Moura has started work on a swaying vegetation shader using the new language.

A side-effect of switching to this new shading language is the elimination of CG on Linux (we now compile to GLSL). This means that Grit now finally supports non-nvidia cards on Linux again.

The new system is documented here: http://www.gritengine.com/grit_book/gfx ... aders.html

Note that the new system is incompatible with the old system. Some content in media/ may need to be updated. Already updated are the following:

common/
vehicles/
playground/
detached/
adventureland/

Soon, all remaining materials will use the new system.
