Hi,

I'm creating a topic to decide the art style of our demo game, lets see what you guys think.

First topic: what city/state do we base our game on?

Personally i think we need to base it on a popular city.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

I do like the idea of doing a city that hasn't been done in GTA before. Map size should be GTA3, starting with one island at a time. I did like the sunny environments in Vice City, it made me happy. So maybe we can do a sunny environment aswel?

Give us your toughts, go.

I really like the idea of a condensed Philadelphia focused on center city philly skylines and surrouding it with old-city, "south street" landmark, liberty bell, Love park, some row homes and docks.

The 'zoomed out more condensed' view of the map of philadelphia's streets where you can't see most of them and only see the highways lends itself to the imagination pretty well.

I like the idea of san fransisco but it's a GTA place and they did a really good job of its shape in their game, they would undoubtedly do it again next go-around.

If you look at some philly photos and google about landmarks, day trips, malls, there is even this really cool mall there that goes under skyscrapers and is someone open in places with big open entrances.

That all said, a lot of those places look cool. Boston looks really cool. I still really like Philly, having seen it, it's like new york in weather but somehow a bit more colorful and vibrant in the buildings and surroundings, look into ground level, too. It's a really historic place with a lot of opportunities to make cool models.

We have been tossing aorund a robot platforming pixar with a twist of twisted in it and a bit raunchy but maybe not as bad as fur day, and bit more grown, but still edgy. Some props I made. Pickups. Just placeholders - spit things out as fast as we can, let it be improved later, when we even know what is needed or not or how we'll use a given thing. Figure aside from these themed things, a smallish but large for platformer type 64 adventure-grown-up game could give us some stuff to start with, certainly gets the basics of gameplay out of the way for larger projects like a whole city:

Doubt it. GTA is the king of open world games and with GTA cloned we make any game anyone wants. Plug and play. There really isn't a better example out there.

if you work on making the engine being open world as described in this wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_world and not just open world in GTA style you will be able to do a better job

Personally I'm using LA in my ue4 game, but I am considering making another in this amazing engine. I reccomend something that isn't being used. San francisco and NYC both overused. Go with Atlanta. I'd like to see that.

Ok. Have you yet done anything, or is this still on early planning stage?

I have some stuff from that my old map project, which was mostly lost with my dead hdd.

I also think that going with a city that is not on GTA would be a better choice. Mostly to avoid some ugly comparissons and to enjoy more freedom during the design of the city (design would not be dictated by what GTA titles did).

I like both Philadelphia and Atlanta (based on a search on Google Images). Atlanta has a plus for appearing in The Walking Dead :)

I would go with a city based on the whole world. A "Pangaea" of sorts.

You mean we pick something from everywhere? That is a good idea. I was thinking that my map project would be a big island with possibly lots of different areas if people would contribute to it and add their visions and stuff.
